We’ve traded up—from a red balloon to a red BALL!

We went to Walgreens a couple of days ago to get some pictures developed.  While we were waiting, we walked around the store and, of course, walked by the BIG ball display.  Guess who came home with more permanent replacement for the beloved red balloon?

We’ve walked a few more times now, but still a bit hesitantly.  However, this is walking with an added challenge…the bowl of Cheerios!

Just swinging….

Yesterday we walked all the way to the big park for the first time in the stroller.  It was such a pretty day, and it was so nice to be outside here.

This was Miss K’s first experience on the swing.  I wish I had the video camera on from the very beginning, but I was busy watching her to see how she’d react.  Her first response was a very loud, “WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!”

18 Month Check-up

Today was our doctor day---the first “official” doctor visit since our visit back in January.  In the past 3 months, Karina has gained a little over a pound and a half, and has grown about 1 1/4 inches.  She’s still just barely on the charts for height and not on the chart at all for weight, but she’s making steady improvement.  YAY!

We did have to have 3 shots today, but no more until October.  The doctor was very positive, and said that she didn’t see anything health-wise that we need to be worried about.

We know that K is behind where she should be in her verbal skills (she says about 10-12 words:  up, dada, belbo (Elmo), bye bye, ah-low (hello!), uh-oh, ball, mama, Jack, kitty (sort-of), and Thu-san (Susan).)  But the kid has only been here 3 months—and she’s only heard English for a little over 3 months.  She UNDERSTANDS a whole lot of English, so the speaking part should be coming soon.  She’s also behind on her gross motor skills, but her fine motor skills and her social skills are very good for her age.

Heartsick…

Please, please, please offer up a prayer for all of the families who are in the midst of completing a Russia adoption, and for all of the children who are waiting for their forever families.

In case you have missed the news, an adoptive parent in the US sent her child back to Russia ALONE on a plane.  The Russian authorities are furious.  I am furious.  While I can understand that being a parent is HARD, especially when there are challenges, this mom had options.  Much better options.  And now the future of Russian adoption is in jeopardy for American parents.

Please pray that this does not mess things up for the other parents.  And that there is healing for all of the parties involved, especially this little boy.
